REMIKSE

REMIKSE is a sampler device and software that I made with Artur Cordeiro and Rafael Cordeiro for the conference "Velhos e Novos Desafios da Liberdade de Expressão" (Freedom of expression: Old and new challenges) in São Paulo, Brazil. We were invited by Article 19 in 2013 to propose a project relating to the theme 'open-source' to be presented during their conference. We came up with the suggestion of developing a sampler, aiming to show to non-technical people how accessible, cheap and easy it is to use the creative open-source tools currently available. The intention was to create something opposing to the fancy, expensive, and fabricated by inaccessible machines, idea of technology.

We chose to use a cardboard box as the case, aiming to convey a homemade style.

The software was developed in Processing and allows the user to choose a combination of samples to be played in loop. The sample is played right after the user pushes the button (or turn the knob) and is put in sync with the rest of the samples being played.
